Kasumi Ring. Ring. I lift the phone, twisting the cream-coloured cable absently between two fingers. A garbled voice introduces itself as a teacher. She’s apparently calling from Fukuoka. Frowning, I take a seat on the small and shabby brown sofa, picking up the phone box and placing it on the crooked arm next to my abandoned coffee mug. The thin cushions next to me smell musky, and the cherry blossom themed embroidery is loosely unravelling at one end, trailing little wisps of crimson to clash horridly with the russet sofa cushions.
